Confirmation at HPUMC is a year long comprehensive program of education and spiritual formation for sixth grade.
During confirmation the class members are instructed in the basics of the faith (our identity, our history and heritage, our practices, and our beliefs) and what it means to live the Christian life and be involved in the mission of the church in the world.
But behind the instruction of the class is the larger goal of spiritual formation and Christian discipleship. Our faith is not just about information. It is primarily about relationship – with God and with neighbor. Key to this is spiritual formation - being molded, shaped, or transformed into the image of Christ. This takes time and experiences.
To facilitate our relational and formational agenda, we will have retreats, mission opportunities, field trips and parties. It is intended that participants be involved in the whole range of activities, not just the morning classes.
At the end of the year, class members have the opportunity to be confirmed as full professing members of the church. However, the decision to be confirmed is just that - a decision, a choice. It is not required.
The program includes Sunday school which meets from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. each Sunday in room 386, as well as over 40 other activities, including church visits, retreats, worship services, and recreational fellowship events.
Confirmation is lead by a team of over 180 parents, other adults and high school students. This year’s class is made up of over 250 students from nearly 40 different schools.
HPUMC’s Confirmation program uses a combination of large group presentation and small groups. Groups are lead by two adults and two high school youth, And class members are in the same small group for the academic year.
Families can enroll in confirmation at any time.
