International Health Project – The Haiti Eye Clinic in Petit Goave, Haiti, is Highland Park United Methodist Church’s longest-running global partnership. The clinic collapsed in the January 12, 2010 earthquake, while a team from the church was working there. Our gift will help rebuild the clinic and allow the in-country staff to continue to provide eye care throughout the construction process.
Local Health Project – One in three children living in the city of Dallas lives in poverty. Children who live in poverty do not eat well, and children who do not eat well do not do well in school. The North Texas Food Bank’s Food 4 Kids program provides elementary school-age children a $5 backpack filled with nutritious, kid-friendly, self-serve food that supplies 60% of their nutritional needs for the weekend. This year, nearly 9000 children will receive backpacks every week at over 300 school sites.
Local Education Project – Vision Camp is a collaborative effort between Crossroads Community Services and Wesley-Rankin Community Center to identify and equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to plan for post-secondary education and careers. This is a pilot program that will take an entire class of rising eighth-graders who participate in the Wesley-Rankin Keys to Success program and help them develop skills through standardized tests, goal-setting, resource management, communication exercises, and emotion management for optimized educational and career success.
