God has richly blessed Highland Park United Methodist Church and its members. Having been so blessed, we are called to be a blessing to others, reflecting God’s grace, compassion and love. Our response includes striving to be good stewards of God’s blessings. The HPUMC Permanent Endowment Funds were created to assist members in fulfilling that response.

What Is An Endowment Fund?
An endowment fund is a permanent fund which is established now from current resources in order to provide for the future.

The endowment funds are invested for income and growth so that they will grow to meet the future needs of the church.

Only amounts equal to or less than the income of the funds, plus a portion of the growth of the invested funds, are expended on immediate needs of the church so that the principal of the funds will be preserved for the needs of future generations.

What Is Effective Giving?
Effective charitable giving is the process whereby you decide how best to make gifts in light of your overall goals.

Giving the right amount.  It is important to give without jeopardizing your family’s or your own financial well-being.

The importance of timing.  Tax benefits can often be enhanced by carefully planning the timing of your gifts.

Giving in the best way.  Your advisors can assist you in determining the appropriate plan of giving for you and your family.

Consistent with these goals, you may wish to consider a bequest or other deferred gift to the church in addition to your regular gifts.

Making Your Gift to the HPUMC Permanent Endowment Funds
Gifts may be made to any of the specific endowment funds listed above in the following ways:

  • By a gift of money, securities or other property during your lifetime
  • By a gift under your Last Will and Testament
  • By beneficiary designation on a life insurance policy
  • By beneficiary designation on an employee benefit plan or IRA
  • By naming an Endowment Fund as the remainder beneficiary under a charitable remainder trust

Which method for making a gift is best for you?  You should consult your estate planning or tax planning professional as you consider these opportunities.
