No matter how you look at it, making people feel welcome to HPUMC is one of the most important ministries in the church building,
especially at worship services. It's that critical first impression visitors receive when they walk in our doors, and it sets the atmosphere for the rest of their experience. Cornerstone is a wonderfully accepting, engaging, and growing community, and now is an exciting time to be a part of welcoming people into a closer relationship with God and with this church. Consider becoming a vital part of this great ministry by volunteering for one of the positions below. If you can smile, you can do it!
Head Usher/Greeter – Arrive 15 minutes before the service starts, and organize the greeters by assigning them to doors and aisles, making sure they don’t run out of bulletins. Organize the ushers and assign them to aisles. After the offering is collected in the black box, take it to the business office in room 307. Smile!
Door Greeter – Arrive 15 minutes before the service starts, and stand at an entry door, handing out bulletins. Smile, and tell people you’re glad they’re here! Close the entry doors at the beginning of announcements, and you're finished.
Aisle Greeter – Arrive 15 minutes before the service starts, and walk up and down the aisles, greeting people who have arrived early. Smile! You are finished once the service starts.
Top Seating Usher – Arrive 5 minutes before the service starts, stand at top of an aisle and help people locate seats. Direct them down the aisle to a bottom usher. Smile! You are finished when the sermon starts.
Bottom Seating Usher – Arrive 5 minutes before the service starts, stand near the bottom of an aisle looking for seats, and encourage people to come down, ushering them into open seats. Smile! You are finished when the sermon starts.
Service Greeter – Arrive as the service starts, and stay in the balcony area during most of the service, handing bulletins to late arrivals and directing them towards the aisles. Smile, and tell people you’re glad they’re here! You are finished when the sermon is over.
Offering Usher – Arrive as the service starts, and grab an offering basket and take it with you to your seat. During the Offertory, go to the bottom of your assigned aisle and pass the basket to collect the offering. Make sure everyone gets the basket, and smile! Empty your basket into the black box at the top of Wesley Hall, and you are finished.
Special Events Greeter – Join a list of people who can help greet attendees at our Cornerstone Speakers Initiative and other Fellowship events.
