How Great Thou Art. That’s no small goal for Cornerstone’s Early Morning Gospel Hour, a new 45-minute service at HPUMC. “Our church continues to grow, in part because we offer multiple styles of worship on Sunday morning: traditional, Anglican, teaching and contemporary,” says Rev. Paul Rasmussen, Cornerstone Pastor. “The Gospel Hour presents a worship genre that we haven't had up to now, one that truly compliments our existing services. We hope to attract those who long for great renditions of the soul-stirring gospel songs and hymns they grew up with.” The Cornerstone Gospel Quartet leads the worship music, with two vocalists and two instrumentalists. Music Director and Worship Leader Karla Nivens (soprano) has been with Cornerstone for four years. Soprano Melissa Paxton joined Cornerstone at its inception. Famed Dallas musician Kelly Riley sings and plays acoustic guitar, and Brad Neher rounds out the group on piano. What makes the Early Morning Gospel Hour different from Sunday's Cornerstone services? According to Rev. Rasmussen, “Cornerstone Worship (at 9:30 and 11:00) presents adult contemporary Christian music. The Gospel Hour is reminiscent of an old-time Methodist camp meeting or an old-time revival, with lots of gospel and soul. There's a high priority on familiarity. In other words, you'll sing the worship songs and hymns you know and love, that you heard growing up. You can’t help but be moved.” Rev. Rasmussen preaches the same message in all three services. Join us for Cornerstone’s Early Morning Gospel Hour every Sunday at 8:30 a.m. in Wesley Hall. |
