Phil was born and raised in the big town of Fair Grove, Missouri (pop. 1100) He lived with his parents and sister on their family farm. His grandparents also had a house on the 80 acre farm. What farm wouldn't be complete without Cows, so the Dieke farm had cows! Phil is blessed with a loving family. He is a carbon copy of his mother and his sister is a constant reminder of Phil's dad. After Graduation from Fair Grove High School, Phil received his Bachelors of Arts in Religious Studies from Missouri State University and now attends Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. Before coming on staff with HPUMC Youth Ministry, Phil worked with his father in the family business Dieke Electric. Phil began his ministry career at Kingsway UMC in Springfield, MO and a year later found his way to HPUMC in August of 2007. On December 20, 2008 Phil married Jessi. Phil and Jessi have two dogs (Peter the Great and Lola.) Besides living a life of constant ministry, Phil enjoys sports, reading, rock climbing, sporting events, musicals and hanging out on the lake. Most of all Phil enjoys being with the people he loves!
Who were some of your influences/inspirations? My Dad, who I dearly miss. Samson Latichson, my mentor from college. David Timothy, I think he is a prime example of faith in action. Shane Claiborne, I find his words and actions to be that of a modern day prophet.
What is an interesting fact about you? Even though I am an incredibly slow reader, I love to read. I really don't like being in front of people and it usually gives me stomach issues. I think the most obvious fact about me is I have dreads….they chose me!
Describe your perfect day…Not waking up to an alarm, a big breakfast of bacon and eggs, after that its kind of whatever…lots of time with friends and family, long meals, something athletic and time with my wife and dogs.
My all time favorite movie is…Moulin Rouge, Snatch, Gladiator, Blood Diamond, and Boondock Saints.
My favorite food is…any breakfast food but must involve BACON!
My favorite sport is…Football…great to watch and play!
My favorite quote is…"I sure love Jesus, but the Christians seem so unlike their Christ." - Ghandi
Whats on your ipod…Flobots, Wyclef Jean, Switchfoot, Mat Wertz, Dave Barns
Whats one of the most important lessons you've learned in life? Yes Dear…. and if we valued others a s greater then ourselves we'd live in a world with much less pain.
My favorite scripture is… Amos 5:21-24 "I hate, I despise your religious feasts; I cannot stand your assemblies. Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them. Always with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!
